Fit Checking your custom earplugs
Once you have received your earplugs they can be tested with our SI Meter. The SI meter makes a direct differential measurement of the sound pressure level (SPL) in dB outside and inside the ear canal when worn by the user.
The scientific term for this type of measurement is MIRE, an acronym for Microphone In Real Ear.
This is achieved by probing through the earplug with a special tube that fits into the cavity of the earplug where normally the filter is placed ( the filter has therefore been removed in order to perform the measurement ). Then a test signal is played and the resulting SPL is measured simultaneously outside and inside the ear canal by two microphones, the difference is given as the result on the device display bar. Thereby the seal of the earmould is verified. The filter has already been acoustically measured prior to release.
