Who is affected by noise induced hearing loss?

Exposure to noise can happen at any age. People of all ages including children, teens, young adults and older people can develop noise induced hearing loss.

What is noise induced hearing loss?

NIHL is caused by exposure to loud sounds or noise. Each day, we experience sound in every environment such as TV, radio, iPods, household appliances and traffic. Usually, these sounds are at safe levels that don't damage our hearing however, they can be harmful when they are too loud or long lasting. These sounds can damage the little hairs  (Stereocilia) in our inner ear causing noise induced hearing loss.

Noise induced hearing loss can be immediate or can take a long time to be noticeable. It can be temporary or permanent and can affect one or both ears.
